  • E-International Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Law on October 10, 2020

Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur was one of the collaborators, along with the Law Mantra Trust; Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab; and, Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, in organizing the International Seminar on “Artificial Intelligence and Law”. The seminar was inaugurated in the august presence of Hon’ble Justice A. MuhamedMustaque, Judge, High Court of Kerala; Hon’ble Justice Pratibha M. Singh, Judge, High Court of Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Irene Calboli, Professor of Law, Texas A&M University School of Law; Prof. (Dr.) Jacques de Werra, Professor and Director, Digital Law Center, School of Law, University of Geneva, Geneva; Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit Singh Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab; Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur; and, Mr. Kishor Kumar Mishra, President, Law Mantra Trust.

The inaugural session witnessed the book release of five books titled, ABROGATION OF ARTICLE 370 & ARTICLE 35A: CONSTITUTIONAL ANALYSIS (1st ed. 2020- ISBN: 978 - 93 - 89657 - 62 – 3); CAA NRC NPR: CONSTITUTIONAL ANALYSIS (1st ed. 2020- ISBN: 978-93-89657-54-8); CHILD RIGHTS: LAWS, POLICIES AND PRACTICES (1st ed. 2020- ISBN: 978-93-89657-60-9); HUMAN RIGHTS AND DISABILITY LAW: GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE (1st ed. 2020- ISBN: 978-93-89657-61-6); CRIME AGAINST WOMEN AND LAW RELATING TO WELFARE AND PROTECTION OF WOMEN, (1st ed. 2020- ISBN: 978-93-89657-61-6). The five books have been published by Bharti Publications, New Delhi, and edited by Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur; Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Kumar Vats, Registrar, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala; Dr. HimanshuPandey, Associate Professor of Law, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur; Dr. Shailendra Kumar, Assistant Professor, Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad; Mr. Kishor Kumar Mishra, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi; Mr. Aditya Mishra, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi; and, Ms. Akansha Jain, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi.

The dignitaries gracing the inaugural session shared their erudite views on various facets of Artificial Intelligence and Law. Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur addressed the audience on the topic, “AI and Law: Ethical Issues”. Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit Singh Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab shared his insights on the “Application of AI in Legal Practice”. Further, Prof. (Dr.) Irene Calboli, Professor of Law, Texas A&M University School of Law addressed the audience on, “IP and Artificial Intelligence”, and Hon’ble Justice Pratibha M. Singh, Judge, High Court of Delhi, shared her insights on “Artificial Intelligence and Law”. Furthermore, Hon’ble Justice A. MuhamedMustaque, Judge, High Court of Kerala threw light on the myriad “Challenges to AI”. Along with these legal luminaries, the inaugural session was also graced by members of the legal fraternity, academia, as well as participants.

The Seminar concluded with a Valedictory Session which was attended by Prof. (Dr.) K.V.S. Sarma, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad; Prof (Dr.) Nari Lee, Professor of Law, Hanken School of Economics, Commercial Law, Helsinki; Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Kumar Vats, Registrar and Professor of Law, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab; Prof. (Dr.) Justyna OZEGALSKA-TRYBALSKA, Associate Professor of Law, Jagiellonian University, Kraków; and, Dr. HimanshuPandey, Associate Professor of Law, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur. The Seminar was intellectually enriching and abounding in thought-provoking deliberations on a topic of immense contemporary significance.
